Alton B. Lewis attended the University of Mississippi. Alton received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
After graduating, Alton worked in various capacities as a mechanical engineer and in industrial management. Alton entered Memphis State University to study law at night
while employed as Vice President of Operations of Pearl Enterprises, Inc. In 1979, he was awarded his Juris Doctorate and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar. He then practiced in Hammond and in January of 1982 became a partner in the law firm of Pittman, Matheny, Lewis & Moody. After practicing as a sole practitioner for one year, he and Christopher Moody formed the law firm of Lewis and Moody in June of 1985.
Alton has been certified as a Specialist in Civil Litigation by the American Board of Trial Advocacy. He has been named to the Advisory Council of the Louisiana State Bar Association Section on Fidelity, Surety and Construction Law. He has been named a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation. Alton is a member of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, American Trial 21st Judicial District Bar Association.
Alton is also active in local and state civic affairs. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana mental Health Association, and he has served as president and board member for the Tangipahoa Mental Health Association. He is a member of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Board of Directors for the Tangipahoa Parish Area United Way, and presently sits on the Board of Directors of First Guaranty Bank.
